Environmentally-friendly with ZERO-PLASTIC

ZERO-PLASTIC is going to meet the environmentally-friendly shoppers in Kota Kinabalu soon. This bag is made from tapioca-based materials and recycled items.

Managing director of Maribumi Group, M. R. Sivagiri said  the bag is another bio-polymer product. It is 100 per cent bio-degradable, easily decomposes and degrades but is durable and sustainable at the same time. The cost of the bags is slightly expensive more than the regular plastic bags due to the higher cost of production but most important its value is more meaningful due to its contribution to environmental protection. ZERO-PLASTIC is ready to enter the market through several supermarkets here within the first six months next year, he added.

In a survey technologies for eliminating or reducing plastic waste amounts will be identified and evaluated. The survey will include issues such as: reducing plastic contents in products and packaging, reducing the amount of hazardous ingredients, increase the life time of the product, reuse the product, substitute the product with product service solutions or behaviour change leading to non plastic use.

A number of waste prevention approaches will be presented, including technological solutions and the organisational relations which they depend on. The aim of this activity is not to demonstrate all approaches identified or developed - but to test a palette of promising and varied options.
